Vertical design and a giveaway!

A while ago I wrote about how I tend to use the same design when I am using 2 vertical 4x6 photos. Confessions: I do the same thing when I use 2 horizontal 4x6 photos! Here's some evidence:

I did this one yesterday inspired by the sketch at Studio Calico for 5/29. Here's what I do: I stack the two photos on top of each other and separate them with strips of patterned paper (there I am, stripping again, LOL!). I tend to put the title near those strips.

More recent evidence:

I added more clusters with this one, plus misting, but it's the same design. I used a lot of stickers instead of paper, this time from Webster's Pages Spring Market collection.

This one is older. I trimmed the photos to cut down on distracting backgrounds and mounted it on a mat. I'm thinking this too might have taken design elements from a Studio Calico sketch?

It doesn't always have to be 4x6 to use this design idea:

Anyone else like Project Runway? I decided to make a page about this obsession of a show. Plus, I kept getting dressmaker's dummies in kits (I hate to sew), so I decided I had to figure out a way to use them.

Here I'm using the idea, but I stacked two 4x6 pieces of patterned paper and lay the one photo over it.

And now the giveaway!

I have some lovely Studio Calico and October Afternoon paper and products to send one reader. Leave a comment telling me something you tend to do on your pages, and I'll draw a random winner on Wednesday June 8th (ETA at 8 PM CST)! Be sure to check back this week and see if you won.

I love it - it's a classic design that look different with the details! Design-wise, I don't have anything that I do all the time. But I do love stitching and I do it often, in some way or another.

I have a tendency to go for photo blocks/collages. I am always looking to fit one more photo on the page. Great stuff here today - especially like the clean design of your project runway page! Going to my faves!

i always follow a sketch and usually have to add some sort of die cut from my cricut. thanks for the chance to win.

Wow, my 2 favorite SB lines! I would love to be the winner!

I always use Kraft paper on almost every layout, for the backround or just a scrap piece. I love it!

I use a grid on layouts all the time. Sometimes it's a grid of photos, others it's a grid of patterned papers or embellishments. I love a grid!

funny! I know we all have habits like that... mine are that I love to use my sewing machine on just about every layout, lots of patterned paper, and I use my Tiny Attacher a lot.

I keep using kraft cardstock and have a hard time not doing it!

Kind of ironic, since I have thousands of dollars in sewing machines, that I have just now started stiching on pages, now it seems I do it all the time. My daughter and I have been scrapping a lot lately, she's 15 and I totally love the time we have been spending together.

I tend to mat most of my photos, they seem bare if I don't....I am using more sketches than when I first started scrapping and continue to study some of my favorite scrappers, which you are one of those, to ideas!!

I definitely am like you and use the same arrangement. I am also doing a lot of matting. I am getting better at finding new sketches online to do different arrangements.

All great LOs and if you weren't thinking of it.. you wouldn't know!!! I tend to use a lot of the same embellishments. Thanks for the chance Jennifer!

i tend to fall in love with patterned papers, but then only use a small bit on a layout :p

btw your layouts are very nice... my fav is the "cousins" layout, pretty colors!

I love your Reader and Work layouts! What a versatile sketch/technique!

Hey, when you're on a good thing, why change it? They're all great layouts, & different from each other as well. I have to have a frame around my layouts always, whether it be trimming the page & sticking it down on another piece of 12 x 12 paper, or pieces of paper sewn around the edges, ala Gluestickgirl.

I tend to use alot of twine on my pages and love playing with ribbons.

Thanks for the chance to get some new happy scrappy stuff.

I tend to use a lot of photos on my pages and feel greatly challenged with a mind block when I just want to use two pictures. I will have to print your ideas. Thanks!

i tend to do a lot of clustering. thanks so much for the chance to win!

I enjoy going back to a favorite sketch/LO and replicating it--why not? Thanks for the chance at the RAK.

I can't NOT splatter a little mist somewhere on the page it seems lately. And sewing is almost a must, too! Thanks for the chance to win! :)

checked my recent LOs to see if there was a certain design I used often. And, yes, there is. The Grid. Often with 4 pictures, but also with three and one spot used for journaling.

Love your layouts. I tend to mat all of my photos and usually do very symmetrical layouts.

I tend to distress EVERYTHING ha. I can't help it. If I don't I feel as if my layout isn't finished. I blame the awesome Tim Holtz for this :) thanks for the chance!

Fantastic LOs! Thanks for the chance to win Jennifer!!!

I am pretty consistent in how I do my titles. Definitely tend to use the little ledger letters as the small words in my title.

Amanda Johnson said...

I love all of these!! They have the same basic design, but each has a different feel and is beautiful in its own right!!

I would say that the thing I am most consistent with is hand journaling...if a layout has journaling 9.5x out of 10 it is handwritten!!

Thanks for the chance at some goodies!! :)

Funny you should ask! I noticed recently that I tend to be a horizontal scrapper with two or three pictures going across the page. I am trying to break out of my shell and do some vertical layouts so I just may scraplift your design (with credit of course)!

Sandy said...

I almost always use a title cut with my Cricut and because my handwriting is so bad I usually do computer journaling.

Steffanie said...

What a fantastic giveaway! Thanks, Jennifer!

I like white borders on my photos and using common margins. I also tend to line up or block my photos together to give them more cohesion.

Pam said...

hmmmm I tend to put the pictures right in the middle of the page. I rarely remember to move them them to a corner or tilt them.

NoWomanNoCry said...

Love this! I would use this on my LO's for my summer pics!

Erin said...

I am guilty of this as well! I tend to use smaller images that I reduce in photosheet and line 3 of them up in a horizontal line. My pages usually are on a solid cardstock with a block of patterned paper. And don't forget the flowers! :)

Laura said...

Whether the design is repetitive or not your layouts are always great. I can't think of anything that I do all the time on mine. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

Heather Doolittle said...

Wow- I LOVE your "repeated" pattern!! I tend to use a lot of matting my photos and using "random" paper pieces, like strips and squares. I like misting too. Thanks for the chance to WIN some OA and SC goodies- I love BOTH of those companies!!!!

Ashley Horton said...

My go to technique on almost every lo is some kind of outlining with a brown or black pen...I just love the look that it adds! :) Thanks for the giveaway!

Love your design. I may try it out this week!
I just posted on my blog about my tendency to use multiple fonts/styles on my titles.

I always tend to follow the same layout designs..need to branch out!!

I tend to lift LOs...can't seem to create on my own...Thanks for the chance to win these goodies...

Thanks for a chance to win!! Looking at my layouts, I've realized I almost always use flowers! I also usuallyo mat my photos, and hand stitching is pretty much a must, too!

Looks like you found something that works well. Love that design for 2 4x6's. May have to borrow it.

I tend to always end up using mist. I just love the texture it bring.

i'm a kraft and tape fan, so I use it on most of my layouts. Thanks for the chance.

Laci J said...

I tend to stare at my CS & pics for a REALLY LONG time b4 doing something I'm about to regret. Other than that, I tend to use spray mists!

nada said...

I just realized that i tend to put my photos on the right in almost every single layout! Thanks for the chance to win!

Patty said...

I think all your layouts are great - if that formula works for you and the end result is that you get more memories saved and photos scrapped then I think you should stick to it!

I am obsessed with kraft cardstock cannot stop using it for EVERYTHING. Thanks for the chance to win some fun goodies!!!

Leah said...

thanks for the giveaway...you will usually find hand stitching and a border around the outside edge.

Sara said...

Great layouts! I have a lot like this too. I always use white or kraft cardstock and pieces of patterned paper and letter stickers! Thanks for the chance.

These days, I tend to be using a lot of borders on my pages.

I love all these layouts. Even though you used the same design, they all look so different.
